Tristana: power spikes, strengths, and play style?

Main Post:

I am a Silver IV player and main Tristana, so it's a little sad I don't know her as well as I should. I have the impression of her as a mid to late game champ (the damage and tower shred) who is decent at team fights, especially if she can get her reset. Of course she is power spikes at completed items, but are there any specific to her, or when does she actually start to get strong? I build bf and pick axe > RFC > IE > BT/Maw/Scimitar.

In addition, how does she compare to other ADCs? For example, I don't know how to play against MF well. Avoid her in laning and go for mid-game pushing? Am I better at teamfights? etc.

Appreciate any thoughts on the matter

Top Comment:

She has strong power spikes at levels 2 and 6. She's strong when she can use her resets repeatedly. She can chase down enemies better than most adcs to clean up teamfights. Her single target dmg output is very strong, but her main strength is her safety. You can get out of almost every cc in the game with your W if you time it right.

MF has a stronger laning phase and a stronger teamfight, potentially. However, she's very unsafe in comparison. If you see the enemies drafting a couple strong assassins, you'd be much better off on Tristana than MF.

Spike Jonze style? Opinions and thoughts?

Main Post:

Hello world. There was an earlier thread on favorite directors, style, and technique and I started to think about Spike Jonze. I'm not sure what his techniques are in making a film, but the experience watching his films is something that resonants close to me. What do redditors think of Spike Jonze?

Top Comment:

I love Spike. Being John Malkovich, Adaption, and Her are all arguably three of the best movies of the past decade or so. They have these odd, or even bizarre concepts, and yet they somehow strike this perfect balance between being funny and also deeply human and moving. Her in particular affected me on an emotional level more than any other movie in recent memory.

Bored and found a cool picture of Shining Armor as a girl (gleaming shield I believe) I tried to draw it as close to the original as I could but ran into a few issues. I'll post the original pic in a responding link so you guys can compare. Any and all criticisms appreciated.

How do I spike my hair/style it with gel?

Main Post:

I've never had short hair until recently, when my hairline started to recede - still have my crown though. Right now, my hair is boring and has no style, I don't do anything with it. Today was the first day I did something with my hair and put gel in it. It did not spike up like I thought it would/wanted it to. It more or less still pointed forward with a little lift/incline to it, but not spiked up.

I have about an inch and a half of hair on the top, and I get it trimmed with a 1 on the sides.

How would one gel hair? I know this is a simple/trivial questions, but I am genuinely wondering what the best technique is and looking for advice on different styles that are simple but clean looking. Are there any certain styles I should follow?

My hair looked like this today when I put in the gel http://www.girlschase.com/images/mens-hair-styling-4.jpg

Except the front/bangs were not as up as his are in the pics, they still flopped down somewhat.

I'm trying to achieve (maybe) achieve something like this http://cntemai.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/mens-haircuts-2014-men39s-haircuts-and-haircuts-on-pinterest-hairstyles-for-mens-amazing-receding-hairline-haircuts-ls-2016.jpg or this https://exsecratus.com/wp-content/uploads/parser/ways-to-style-short-hair-men-1.jpg or this https://www.google.com/search?q=gel+hair+with++receding+hairline&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiq1obZjJPZAhUBMqwKHfpPBgkQsAQIKA&biw=1920&bih=900#imgrc=KSZxmBffU7kd2M:

Am I not using the right gel? I got this at the store which I am using https://www.amazon.com/Suave-Max-Hold-Sculpting-Gel/dp/B001IH0MT8 and it specifically says it has no alcohol in it, which I know a lot of gels do have.

For someone that has never put gel in their hair until today - what advice do you have? What would be the best hairstyle with gel for someone what a receded hairline?

Top Comment:

Stay away from gel, it's a cheap product, it hardens up, attracts dust and ruins the look of your hair. All those hairstyles can be done with a simple wax or clay.

You will have more options with a wax, they come in a shiny or matte finish depending on which look you're going for. Clay will have more hold. These products are far better because they won't harden up and will allow your hair more durability.

And with all products, make sure you emulsify them in your hands until you can barely see the product. This is critical if you want even distribution and get the most out of the product.

Spike’ hair

Main Post:

Hey, so I absolutely love bebop. But I’ve always wondered, what kind of hair style does spike have? Is it an Afro? Or is it just very puffy and curly that’s unique to him. Just wondering as I never understood exactly how to describe it. Thanks!

Marino/Rosen Both have the number 3 on their jerseys. Both were passed up in a QB heavy draft. Both mastered the fake spike play. And now both can say they were Miami Dolphins I love it.

Media Discussions: 11/9 Cowboy Bebop

Main Post:

Okay 3 2 1 let’s jam

First, before anyone asks, this is MFA. You aren’t in the wrong subreddit. We’ve been doing a series of movie and television discussions for the last few months, ranging from Wes Anderson to Blade Runner. Film and television are easy ways to discuss visual style, and people are much more open to discussing the outfits and style in Akira or Ghost in the Shell than they are to discuss the outfits in the latest Rick Owens runway show. Grailed released an article a week ago discussing some of the most stylish anime in particular, including Cowboy Bebop.

What makes Cowboy Bebop so stylish? It’s a future western, something we’re now fairly familiar with, from Firefly to Westworld to Mad Max, but it’s so much more than that. It takes a different approach than most sci-fi stories, opting for a “the future is old” look rather than chrome utopias, dive bars and cantinas alongside clean space stations. Convenience store fight scenes will take place in the same world as spaceship dogfights. Each episode also serves up as a homage to subgenres of film, going from casino heist to corrupt cops to campy horror b-movies, compressing what would ordinarily be a movie-length story into a tight twenty minute episode. Each of the main characters has a unique style, but it’s Spike Spiegel’s double breasted suit that draws the most attention, with its casual disheveled look. And I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the jazzy soundtrack behind the entire show, grounding its style in something not quite futuristic or western. There’s very little quite like Cowboy Bebop.

The show is available for streaming on Hulu, but you’ll have to hunt down the movie. Anything else you feel viewers should look out for while watching? Have any screenshots that really resonated with you? Just want to discuss the show or movie? Post any of your comments or feedback, from this discussion to the discussion series as a whole, below.

Schedule linked here. Dates are one day behind, now that I’ve moved this to Thursdays..

Top Comment:

In terms of how the show uses style to communicate character traits, compare Spike's rumpled suit and disheveled hair to Vicious' (his arch-nemesis) longer white hair, and sleek and dramatic clothing. In Vicious' case, this is used to convey a cold persona, which works right down to his choice of long, thin, shiny sword in an era where people have very advanced guns.
